This dialog box appears when saving a text, image or
folder comparison.
Reports can be generated in 3 main formats:
Patch
XML
HTML
Folder / Text Comparisons
XML and HTML
Folder Comparison reports in XML and HTML can reference
sub-reports for Text, Image and Binary Comparisons
when generated as independant Patch, XML or HTML files.
Sub-reports can also be embedded in the Folder Comparison
report. In such a case, files reports must be in the same
format as the Folder Comparison report (XML or HTML).
Technically the interest of embedding
sub-reports is to avoid numerous small
files which may be easier if you treat the XML by
yourself. On the other hand for HTML production, your
HTML page may become huge for large directories and make
it hard to load in a web browser.
Patch reports
You can select which sides you actually want to
differentiate (from left / right / ancestor for both text and
folders, and result in text mode). The 3 typical Unix patch
formats are supported (Normal / Contextual / Unified
Context)
Folder Comparisons only:
You can easily select a subset of the folder tree to
export. There are two ways: selection (you
can select items in the view with the usual Ctrl/Shift
combinations while clicking in the tree) and
bookmarks. Bookmarks are particularly
interesting if you want to repeat the export later because
they are saved in ECMT/ECMS documents, you can manipulate
them more reliably also.
Note that you can use the 'hide item/make item visible'
feature to remove entire sub-trees or single items from the
export (hidden items are not exported, unless specified in
the Folder Display options)
Click on a report type to display a page of configuration
options for that report type. Click the Help
button for information about the options for the currently
selected report type.
When you have configured or reviewed the options for the
selected report type and chosen how you will get the report,
click on the OK button to create the
report.
If you click the Apply button, the
options will be kept for latter usage either from graphical
interface or from command line interface. The Export /
Copy command line to clipboard will generate for you
the command line to launch in order to generate the desired
report directly from command line interface.
Both files and
folders HTML reports are tailored for
printing. The various line
omission/compression options spare you pages. You can select
the Monochrome rendering (which is an 'ink-saving' model) to
spare on ink.
