Ellié Computing Merge accepts URLs as arguments for
comparisons, not only local paths.
Here is what Ellié Computing Merge does when it takes
an argument which must be interpreted as a file or folder
location:
check if the argument is "-" (a single hyphen sign), if
the argument is for input, the location is standard input,
else standard output
check if the argument has a supported scheme (
ftp, ftps,
any built-in
SCC
plugin) or an absolute path (starting with '/' on Unix,
with \\ (double anti-slash) or "L:\" (letter colon
anti-slash)), and makes an URL from that
check if the argument is relative (starting with "~/"
(home directory)), or to current directory (anything
else).
